About the Job

Director, Engineering - Integrations and API Platform

8x8 is looking for an engineering leader to drive our line-of-business offerings by building out a highly scalable, in-cloud, global integrations platform with associated API’s and SDK’s. This person will also lead the effort to develop the API platform for use by 3rd party developers.

This is a key strategic hire. The intersection of telephony and business systems (CRM, HRMS, ERP) is fertile ground for value and innovation, especially in the areas of scale, developer productivity, data visualization, and workflow optimization.  We are looking for someone who can tell us what we need to build, which data we need to ingest and how, and provide a 24x7 available real-time system serving users worldwide.

Engineering directors at 8x8 are expected to be high-quality engineers, technologists, strategists, and team leaders. The position is about understanding our business and customers, developing a talented group, keeping them tightly focused, and quickly and safely delivering value to market. Effectiveness requires strength in engineering, architecture, project management, performance management, cross-functional collaboration, software development, and product design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to deliver high-value and robust apps, API’s and SDK’s within a fast-paced company and market.
  • Build a microservices-based high-quality integration platform that allows for simple, highly performant and scalable integrations with external (and internal) products and services. Think Zendesk, NetSuite, SFDC, and a myriad of others.
  • Build a robust and scalable API platform for 3rd party developers.
  • Establish trust and coordinate with product management, design, support, peer engineering teams, and partners.
  • Invest in your team through coaching, recruiting, and career development.
  • Drive strategic direction with respect to technology choices.
  • Satisfy customers and partners with integration capabilities.

Requirements

  • We have a bias towards action. Being hands on and doing is a must.
  • Ability to execute and produce with a small team on short deadlines in a highly agile environment.
  • Knowledge of highly scalable architectures.
  • Experience building real time platform components.
  • Experience building APIs/SDKs.
  • BA/BS Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of developers.
  • Accomplished prior career as an individual contributor in software engineering.
  • Passion for communications products operating at high scale worldwide.
  • Commitment to automation, quality, and usability.
